Charlotte's Subtle Makeup Has A Big Impact

Today I interviewed Charlotte, a 19-year old college student from Virginia, who some people don't even realize wears makeup! Unlike Mariam (read her interview here!), Charlotte doesn't use makeup as a creative outlet - she says she's not so good at it! Nor does she use bold and dramatic colors, preferring more subtle makeup. Nonetheless she uses makeup to give her extra confidence throughout the day!

How often do you use makeup?

I wear makeup most days but if I have early classes I don’t mind not wearing any. (But there's always time for mascara, right?)

Are there certain times or occasions in specific in which you especially use makeup?

For special or formal occasions, or days that I could use a little extra confidence. If I'm giving a presentation or wake up not feeling my best sometimes the easiest way to take control of my day is to look put together. It's a game changer.

When did you start using makeup and why?

I started wearing stage makeup because of dance when I was very young. I didn’t start wearing everyday makeup until 8th grade.

What similarities or differences do you see between stage makeup and everyday makeup?

I guess on the most basic level they're not that different. Both are meant to enhance the way you look to an audience or those around you - one is just a more blatant expression.

Why do you use makeup now?

I use make up now to make myself look prettier.

What’s your favorite kind of makeup?

I like natural make-up— so it still looks like myself just better. Although I don't use much I feel more confident and social when I do.

Is putting on makeup fun for you?

I like makeup, but I wouldn't say putting it on is fun ... I'm not the best at dramatic or advanced looks so I like to keep things quick and simple otherwise I feel like a clown or a kid playing dress-up. I love when other people do my makeup though!

Do you think makeup is vain? Why or why not?

I don’t think it is. I think if it can make you happier with yourself there is no problem.

Charlotte's interview shows us that you don't have to be a makeup guru for makeup to have a positive impact on your day-to-day life! Although she doesn't use much, the little that she does use makes her happier, and that's what matters.
