When and how often do you use makeup?

Usually every day, even if it is only a little. When I wake up I always make sure to thrown on a little concealer and mascara at the least, but my favorite go-to is a quick subtle black winged liner to add a little extra for the day.

When did you start using makeup and why?

I probably seriously started using makeup when I was about 15. I got really into all of the “beauty gurus” on Youtube and was inspired to try their looks. Makeup was more about being artistic and creative than it was about being pretty for me.

Why do you use makeup now?

Now I use it to spice up my look or add a little self-confidence to my day. I went through an entire year of extremely severe acne, so that caused me to use more makeup more often. But now that my skin is better, I like to do it just to get creative.

What’s your favorite kind of makeup?

For foundation I really love Bare Minerals products because they’re natural and don’t look like you have too much going on. As for eye shadows, I’ve been consistently using a Stila pallet for the past year or so and am in love with its colors and rich pigments. A little goes a long way!

Do you think makeup is vain? Why or why not?

I only think it is vain if you can’t allow yourself a day every once in a while without any makeup. I love makeup as an art and a way to dress up, but I find true value and appreciation in showing a bare face sometimes. I’m all about the natural beauty with a little extra “oomf” on the makeup days.

Can you think of a time that makeup made you feel happiest?

I think any day that you can get those eyeliner wings to match perfectly on both eyes is a darn good day. My happiest is when I can get out of the shower and appreciate my face bare and natural, but then I add makeup and feel like I own the world with a fun look. It also makes me happy to get all dolled up for a night out, whether it be a party with friends, a date, or just a sunny day that calls for a sundress.

Can you think of a time that makeup helped you mediate a time you felt upset?

I think makeup was my best friend during my junior year of high school when I suffered severe acne out of nowhere. It was a way for me to conceal the one thing that made me feel most insecure and allowed me to be a little more self confident.
