Wearing a gorgeous ball gown by couture designer, Liancarlo, our bride Karla married her fiancé, Andrew, on May 24th, 2014 at the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Michigan.
Karla is originally from San Pedro Sula, Honduras. She attended the University of Western Ontario, where she received both her bachelor and PhD degrees in Neuroscience. She moved to Ann Arbor in December 2010 to work in a neuroscience lab at the University of Michigan.
Andrew grew up in Mandan, North Dakota and attended Minnesota State University at Moorhead where he studied chemistry and biology. Currently, he is completing his PhD in pharmacology at the University of Michigan.

Karla and Andrew met at a bar in downtown Ann Arbor. As Karla says, “Sometimes great things happen completely by chance.” She was in Ann Arbor looking for an apartment for her upcoming move and Andrew was attending a pharmacology event. At some point during the evening, Andrew caught sight of a beautiful woman and sprinted over to introduce himself. He even gave Karla his cell phone number. Although Karla was intrigued, she didn’t call him the next day. She regretted not calling when she realized how happy he made her feel. When she finally moved to Ann Arbor, she looked him up and the rest is history.
Now, what about that wedding gown! Karla’s gown was Style #5806 by Liancarlo. It is truly a show-stopper, simply put. We asked Karla about her dress search and here is what she said:
I had tried over 20 dresses at other bridal salons and hadn't really felt like I had found my dress. All the dresses either seemed like they were missing something or seemed too expensive just for the designers' label. By the time I made an appointment at Mimi's Bridal Boutique, I was getting a little frustrated with the wedding dress shopping experience. With a very good friend and since my family still lives in Honduras, I was able to communicate with my mother and sisters using Skype throughout the appointment.
My appointment was during a Liancarlo trunk show. I was not familiar with the designer, but I liked the dresses being displayed. When my consultant brought over my dress, I was hesitant to try it on since I never pictured myself picking a gown that had embroidered details. However, the dress’s beautiful tulle skirt and color with hints of blush got me really excited. I absolutely loved how it looked and made me feel...especially the color! It was so me (as my friend pointed out)! My family, still on Skype, was not convinced. So I tried a puffier dress of their choice but my heart had been already sold on the Liancarlo. Sorry mom and sisters! (They ended up loving the dress once they saw it on me, though!)
During my relationship with Mimi’s Bridal Boutique, from the time I found my gown, up until the time it was cleaned and preserved, I am pretty sure I got to interact with the entire staff. They were all so helpful, patient, very professional, and lovely to be around.
At our wedding, I received so many compliments on my beautiful dress and matching veil. Most importantly, I was able to dance the night away in my pretty dress.
Thanks, Karla. It was our pleasure to help you find the perfect gown!
