Spring Wedding: The World is In Bloom

Spring strikes me as the perfect season to have a wedding, although I did get married in the winter, but that is beside the point. Spring is my favorite season. The air is the perfect combination of warm and cool, flowers are starting to bloom, tree blossoms are starting to appear, a soft breeze is welcomed over the harsh gusts of winter wind. The sun is out more and you can just breath more deeply. Spring is the time for rebirth, a new beginning. It is the time when we welcome new life; flora and the fauna. There is color again. All of these reasons make spring such a wonderful and magical time to have a wedding. Below I’ve highlighted my favorite tips and ideas to have the most beautiful spring wedding your guests have ever seen.

1. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FLOWERS. Spring equals flowers, period. From the bouquets, to the boutonnieres and corsages, to the centerpieces, to the general décor, flowers need to be the main event (only second to actual union of two people in love). Here are floral suggestions.

- Clematis

- Eucalyptus

- Hydrangeas

2. FLORAL ELEGANCE. Your gown and wedding day style should emulate the season. Spring is such a humble time. Simple elegance enhanced with floral elements. There are so many types of lace in the world but Chantilly just screams spring time. It’s soft and fragile, like petals. If you opt for a lace gown try styles that incorporate floral or vine patterns in the lace. If you are not a lace lover, try styles that showcase 3-D floral or petal details. Your hair should be loose and tussled, not uptight. A touch of baby’s breath or rose blossoms to your hair ties everything together. You could go full floral crown or just one large flower element in your hair. If you’re going to wear a veil keep it simple with a plain raw edge, a thin beaded scallop edge or floral pattern along the sweep. As for you bridesmaids, you can always do an array of pastel shades or dusty hues. If you’re feeling a bit bold you could have them wear floral print dresses. The groom and his groom’s men can also get in on the floral fun with floral print ties or vibrant boutonnieres that show off this sunshine season.

3. NATURE IS YOUR INSPIRATION. There is nothing more lovely than nature in the spring. Look to No. 1 on this list for flower ideas, but once you have chosen your flowers, what to do with them? Start with a breath taking entrance way of an archway of flowers, and then perhaps having the walls covered in flowers. You can have flowy, gauzy drapery along the walls, chairs and aisles with roses and vines descending from the ceiling. Instead of traditional centerpieces you could do a lush garland of flowers and greenery, or a sprinkling of petals amongst classic centerpieces. If vases or potted centerpieces are more your style you could try using vintage looking brass teapots, teacups, urns and vases to hold abundant floral arrangements. Or you could have small potted succulents placed sporadically amongst strands of jasmine, ferns and greenery.

4. COLOR CORDINATION. I would think the color scheme for a spring wedding would be quite obvious. Below is a list of my ideas for a suitable color palette.

- Baby blues

- Powder pinks and purples

- Soft sage green

- Ivory or cream

- Bright pinks

- All shades of gray

- Bold violet

- Pastel yellow

5. ALWAYS END WITH DESSERT. Your wedding cake should be sweet, both in taste and look. A “potted cake”, where the base is an actual pot and then the layers of cake are staked coming out of the pot with a bouquet of flowers “growing” out of the pot and up the sides of the cake. That’s one idea. Or, a simple naked cake with a delicate arrangement of florals and vines. Another idea is a simple frosted cake with one large, over the top flower as the topper. And finally, a sweet, round layered cake with a soft pink frosted sides and top, floral arrangement and a simple drip element around the edge.
