Sarah and David: Sometimes It Takes A Little Convincing

Sarah grew up in New Jersey, but after completing her Master’s degree at the University of Michigan, she took a job in Findlay, Ohio. Shortly after her move to Ohio, Sarah and a co-worker went out one evening. A group of guys invited the two of them to play corn-hole. Sarah was paired up with David. Despite practically missing every one of her throws, David was not perturbed and proceeded to ask her out for the following day. Sarah declined. She admits she lied to get out of it.

“Not exactly love at first sight!”

Sarah had no intention of going out with David, let alone seeing him again. However, her co-worker had really hit off with one of the other guys from David’s group. After some convincing Sarah agreed to go on a double with her co-worker, this other guy and David.

“David and I had a blast, and the rest is history.”

Goes to show you really don’t know what life has in store for you.

Sarah and David went on a road trip from San Francisco to San Diego and along the way made a stop at Yosemite National Park. They decided to hike the Mist Trail and made their way to the top of a waterfall. David’s plan was to propose later on during their vacation, but at the top of that waterfall everything seemed perfect. With the beautiful scenery surrounding them, the mountains, the rushing water, and even a rainbow, David dropped to one knee and proposed. Sarah said yes!

“When we went to recreate the moment and take a picture, a tourist walked up to us and told us she had noticed the proposal and [had] already taken a picture, so we’ve got a great snapshot of the actual moment. I look sweaty, but delighted.”

Sarah and David were married June of 2018. The ceremony and reception were held at the Toledo Country Club. It was the perfect location: halfway between Sarah’s family in Michigan and David’s family in Ohio. The venue is right along the Maumee River which makes for a picturesque outdoor ceremony space and the club offers an outside dance floor adorned with twinkling string lights. It also has a back up space indoors, just in case it rains, - which it did on the couple’s wedding day. But they were still able to get some gorgeous photos outdoors. The indoor space feels like a living room - it is comfortable and cozy with a fireplace that makes for a great focal point for the ceremony. The reception was in an adjourning room framed by large windows and a big wrap around patio.

“Our wedding went so smoothly […] – we spent most of the night talking to family, catching up with friends, and rocking it out on the dance floor.”

It was hard for Sarah to choose her gown when she was shopping at Mimi’s, mainly because she wasn’t sure what she wanted and she thought all the gowns were pretty.

“It was hard to decide which I liked best.”

Near the end of her appointment Sarah was getting tired from keep trying on she had done and was about to call it quits and just skip the last gown. She was convinced V-necks were not a good look for her. Despite being tired and not really liking the style of the final gown, she put it on anyway. And to her surprise it was ‘The One’. It was ‘Meryl’ by Maggie Sottero: an A-line gown with a few layers of crinoline to give the skirt some volume, a V-neckline, sheer straps, a square shaped open back, beaded lace appliques and a fun layer of polka dot tulle under the lace.

“I really felt like ‘me’ in it.”

Sarah knows how hard planning a wedding can be and she recommends contacting vendors as early as you can.

“Also, remember that all of your friends and family are coming together to celebrate you marrying your best friend, and that your day will be special even if a few details don’t go according to plan.”
