Our Bride, Katie: All in Good Time

Katie and Evan have a lot in common, such as a love for literature and the outdoors and the fact the both took honors classes at Aquinas College, which is where they met. Their freshman year Evan built up the courage to ask Katie out. Unfortunately, Katie was taken at the time. Years later, when Katie was single, she built up the courage to invite Evan to a symphony. The date of the symphony was two months away when she asked him to go, so it was Evan’s idea that maybe they should go on a first date prior to the concert. They met at a coffee shop to get to know each other and within the week they were officially an item.

“About six months later, […] I was confiding in my mother that he was the man I was going to marry.”

The couple planned a trip to Glen Arbor and despite the low, low temperatures Evan insisted that they hike the Sleeping Bear Dunes immediately upon arriving. Early on in their journey they determined they were not dressed properly for the cold day. Before heading back, Evan wanted to take a photo. He set up the tripod and quickly ran back to Katie before the camera went off. Arriving by her side, Evan bent down with the ring to propose.

“Of course, the picture didn’t turn out, but I still said yes!”

Their ceremony was held at the church Katie grew up attending. St. Joseph Shrine in Brooklyn, Michigan is a beautiful, historically charming church. The reception was at Ella Sharp Museum, a lovely event space that overlooks an 18th century cabin, giving a cozy vibe, making it the perfect venue for Katie and Evan’s winter wedding.

There were two moments that Katie says were the two most special moments of the evening, (other than marrying Evan).

“My uncle simply said, “I’ve never seen two people as in love as you and Evan are.”

Her brother told her, “This might be the happiest day of my life […] don’t tell my future wife that!”

Katie set up three appointments in one Saturday, and Mimi’s was the first stop. She picked out several gowns herself, but she ended up hating all of them. She then turned to her bridal specialist’s choice, a two piece gown, with a crouched, beaded bustier top and full layered ballgown skirt. It was the farthest thing from what Katie thought she wanted but when she put it on it instantaneously became her favorite. Katie went onto her other appointments but no other gown even began to come close to the two-piece. Two hours later she was back Mimi’s, saying yes to the WToo two-piece gown. To make matters even better when her gown arrived months later, it fit her so perfectly, no alterations were needed.
