Your Perfect Fall Wedding

Planning a wedding is hard work but it doesn’t have to be tedious. Wedding planning can be a lot of fun and there are areas of the process that allow you to be creative. Choosing details like the décor, the centerpieces, and the bouquets can be much more enjoyable if you have a theme that keeps you organized and on track. The theme doesn’t need to be anything outlandish or garish. The theme could be as simple as the season you are getting married. By sticking to the time of year all the details will be cohesive and fall into place. Autumn is just around the corner, so here are some ideas and tips to help you plan the perfect fall wedding.

Color palette: Color is a great place to start when developing a cohesive wedding style. When you think of fall, leaves changing color I’m sure comes to mind. In that very concept there are so many rich and statement colors. The best way to incorporate those hues and tones is by using them in a complementary way, not the main or base color of your wedding. Here’s what that means: most brides begin by deciding what color they want their bridesmaids to wear. This is your main or base color. There are two directions you could go with this: neutral or jewel. If neutral is your vibe stick to dark browns or dark grays. If you want more jewel tones choose eggplant, burgundy, navy or gold. Then in come the complementary colors. Add vibrant pops of color in the floral arrangements, center pieces, chair and table adornments and place settings- colors like ruby reds, golden yellows and oranges.

Flowers and foliage: From hundreds and hundreds of flowers, how are you supposed to choose? Keep it simple, go with what’s in season. Pick from the more traditional floral options to be predominately present, like roses, Asiatic lilies, chrysanthemums, gerbera daisies, and/or sunflowers. Interspersed with the main flowers should be a floral array of begonias, asters, calla lilies, dahlias, gladiolus, marigolds, zinnias, celosias, alstroemerias, Leucadendron, and/or yarrow. Finish with filler stems like wildflowers, Queen Anne’s lace, solidago, waxflower, Limonium, Montecasino aster, statice sinuata, gypsophila and/or hypericum. To go a little untraditional, instead of flowers you could use more leaves that have already begun to turn autumn colors or you could have scattered thistles or berries in your bouquets and other floral arrangements.

Décor: Think rustic with a mystical twist, like you’re entering an enchanted wood. You could have twinkling lights hung that give off a dim golden glow or candles flickering from wooden or antique lanterns. The walls could be draped in willowy vines, leaves and branches with hidden berries, ferns and moss. Mini versions of the draping could adorn the chairs and tables. For centerpieces imagine a big strong tree whose leaves have already begun to change and fall: a large central vase with an explosion of floral elements and vines, and branches semi covered in leaves but some have already scattered around the base, combined with small vases with leaves submerged in water and candles floating on top. Or go a more wooden approach with carved branches with vines of cascading flowers and crystals. Or squat centerpieces made of jewel and vibrant colored flowers mixed with ivory buds and pale green ivy. Play with fall items like pumpkins, gourdes, squashes, pinecones, apples, figs and acorns.

Cake: Probably the most important part of a wedding besides the actual marriage part. Chocolate, vanilla and red velvet are classic flavors and are acceptable anytime of the year. Here are a few fall flavors that you might not have considered: Pumpkin spice, maple, carrot cake, spiced cake, apple cake, orange, or nutty elements like pecans or walnuts. The look of the cake is just as important as the taste, we do eat with our eyes first. It could be a classic multi-tiered cake, white smooth frosting and pearl piping details but with a fall twist of leaves and fruit nestled on each tier. Or a naked cake with leaves, vines and berries. The cake could be a display of vines, floral and leaves cascading around the layers. What else comes on a vine? Pumpkins. It could be a vine of baby pumpkins wrapped around each tier. Don’t like cake? Nothing says Autumn quite like a pie: pumpkin pie, apple pie, sweet potato pie or maple pecan pie. Be different do a donut tower: classic cake donuts, cinnamon and sugar, powdered sugar, chocolate icing and crushed nuts and fall colored sprinkled donuts. Maybe your wedding is around Halloween, why not a candy bar made up of classic Halloween treats. And finally, the legendary Caramel Apple. Have them individually wrapped in cellophane secured with a ribbon so your guests can take one home for later.
